Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival In Beijing

Arrive in Beijing and meet your local guide and driver. You’re transferred to your hotel, where you can rest or take a short walk nearby to get a first feel for the city.

Day 2 — Forbidden City & Hutong Life

Dive straight into imperial history with a curated visit to the Forbidden City, focusing on a selection of halls and courtyards that reveal how emperors actually lived and ruled. Later, explore the hutong alleys: visit a traditional courtyard home, go up the Bell or Drum Tower for a city view, and see how these old neighborhoods are being preserved. In the evening, enjoy a classic Peking duck dinner.

Day 3 — Temple Of Heaven & Mutianyu Great Wall

Start the day at the Temple of Heaven, a former imperial ritual complex that is now a living park full of locals singing, practicing tai chi, and playing games. Then drive out to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Take a cable car up to a scenic tower and walk along one of the most photogenic stretches, with time to pause, climb, and take in the views.

Day 4 — Summer Palace & Train To Pingyao

Spend the morning at the Summer Palace, the former lakeside retreat of the imperial court. Wander through gardens, pavilions, and the long painted corridor, and enjoy views across Kunming Lake. After lunch, transfer to the station for a high-speed train ride to Pingyao. On arrival, meet your local guide and settle into your hotel inside or near the old city.

Day 5 — Pingyao Ancient City & Shanxi Noodle Experience

Walk the city walls and lanes of Pingyao Ancient City, whose banks and courtyards once anchored regional finance and trade. Visit the Rishengchang Draft Bank museum and key temples and halls that show how business and religion shaped the town. Join a hands-on cooking experience to learn traditional Shanxi noodle making, then sit down to enjoy your own work along with other local dishes.

Day 6 — Shuanglin Temple & Train To Xi’an

Visit Shuanglin Temple, home to an extraordinary collection of painted clay sculptures spanning several centuries. The colors, expressions, and details make this one of the most memorable Buddhist sites in northern China and a visual highlight for many travelers. In the afternoon, board a high-speed train to Xi’an, arriving in the evening and transferring directly to your hotel.

Day 7 — Terracotta Army & Muslim Quarter

Spend the day focused on China’s first emperor. Visit the Terracotta Army site, walk through the different pits, and see row upon row of life-sized soldiers, horses, and officers. Then head to a local workshop to see how terracotta figures are made and try shaping a small warrior of your own. Later, follow your guide through Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter, tasting signature snacks such as roujiamo, biangbiang noodles, and lamb soup with flatbread.

Day 8 — Big Wild Goose Pagoda, City Wall & Flight To Shanghai

In the morning, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of Xi’an’s most important Buddhist landmarks, with views over the city from its upper levels. Then enjoy a ride along the top of the Xi’an city wall—cycling or walking, depending on your preference. Afterward, transfer to the airport for your short flight to Shanghai, where a local guide meets you and takes you to your hotel.

Day 9 — Shanghai Skyline, Bund & Old Streets

Rise above the city in a modern skyscraper (such as Shanghai Tower) for a full skyline panorama. Take a break with coffee or tea, then cruise along the Huangpu River to see old and new Shanghai from the water. Explore the Bund’s historic facades and side streets, and visit Yu Garden, a classical Chinese garden with rockeries, ponds, and pavilions. Taste local specialties or, if you like, try a more refined restaurant experience.

Day 10 — Free Time & Departure From Shanghai

Enjoy some final free time for shopping, a café visit, or a relaxed walk before your departure. Your guide and driver then transfer you to the airport in good time for your flight.
