Delivered a 6-month professional development program for rural English teachers in Lüliang, led by Dr. Song — a linguistics lecturer from SOAS, University of London. The training focused on practical, linguistics-based teaching methods, and we also helped government-placed rural teachers secure full funding for a study-visit program in the UK.

This trip was designed as a small “test” for our deep cultural journeys: instead of visiting only China’s big-name cities like Beijing or Shanghai, we invited SOAS exchange students to explore lesser-known places in Guizhou and Shanxi, travelling with locals, staying close to real life, and experiencing culture not as a show, but as a daily reality.

Interactive activities allow international guests to engage directly with local children — giving them a rare chance to practice spoken English and explore world cultures. Through simple conversations and fun cultural games, the kids discover that English is not just a school subject, but a bridge to a larger world.

A pioneering cultural-exchange event in one of China’s fifth-tier cities, Lüliang — bringing guests from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Algeria to the region for the first time. This initiative engages 200 local students, expanding their global horizons while introducing international visitors to Lüliang’s distinctive local culture — a place little known even within China, let alone to the world.

A pilot “travel-with-locals” experience that avoids tourist sites entirely — inviting international guests into Lüliang’s villages, neighborhoods, and local factories for an authentic, ground-level understanding of everyday life and local industry.

This training ensured that our volunteers were not just “foreign faces” visiting a rural town, but true cultural ambassadors prepared to bring real value to local children. At InHe Culture, we believe meaningful exchange requires intention, preparation, and respect — and this session laid the foundation for genuine, impactful interaction in Lüliang.

A story that began with a teenager’s frustration in rural China grew into a city-wide charity movement rooted in dignity, sustainability, and community responsibility. From early attempts to donate clothes, to launching a large public charity sale during COVID, Sunny’s journey reveals how meaningful ideas can take root even in small cities—and how one person’s conviction can inspire collective change. This project later became the moral foundation of InHe Culture, reflecting its commitment to social impact, environmental awareness, and cultural exchange.

From July 29 to August 12, 2020, InHe China proudly co-organized the 7th Online Summer Camp of “Embrace China · Telling Stories for You – Lüliang Camp.” Supported by the govermental federation and created for overseas Chinese youths in Göttingen, Germany, this project demonstrated our craftsmanship, professionalism, and dedication to meaningful cultural exchange during the pandemic.

On May 14, 2020, InHe China was officially designated a “Home for Overseas Chinese” by the Luliang Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. The plaque-unveiling ceremony marked the establishment of a community-centered space created to support overseas Chinese families, strengthen cultural ties, and bring people together through shared heritage.

This project was our very first attempt to connect SOAS London students with everyday life in Lüliang, China. It began with uncertainty, small steps, and unexpected support—and it planted the root for everything we later built.

This was not a project. Sunny simply invited a high-school friend to visit Shanxi. Yet the trip revealed how peaceful, sincere cultural exchange can quietly touch people—and planted the earliest seed for what InHe China would one day become.
